Learn more about how blake will fight for you in congress

  • The wealthiest 1% of earners received a massive tax cut in 2017 and Republicans have fulfilled their promises to their donors by making those irresponsible cuts permanent. How do they plan to pay for it? In short, by ballooning the national debt and by cutting crucial benefits that millions of Americans rely on, including Social Security and Medicare.

In Congress, I will fight to make the billionaires and corporations pay their fair share of income taxes and close loopholes that allow the ultra-rich to access their wealth while never paying taxes on their gains. The working and middle classes shouldn’t be footing the bill for government spending that gets funneled into the pockets of billionaires and multi-national corporations.

  • Starting a family has become an unaffordable dream for many Americans. The United States is one of only eight nations in the world to not guarantee paid parental leave of any kind. It’s time we join the developed world and guarantee 12 weeks of paid leave to new parents. Nobody should have to choose between spending valuable time with their newborn and a paycheck.

In Congress, I would support the FAMILY Act to create a national insurance program which would cover a percentage of wages for up to 12 weeks in the event of serious illness, pregnancy, childbirth, and other health events or to care for family members.

  • Our healthcare system is fundamentally broken and leaves decisions about crucial care to profit-driven insurance companies. The “free market” of insurance has ballooned costs due to the complex network of bureaucracy necessary for providers to claim reimbursement for services and hurts small businesses who can’t afford to negotiate premiums like large corporations can.

Health care is a human right, and nobody should have to choose between death and medical debt. It’s time the United States implemented a nationwide single-payer plan for all Americans, with private options available for those who wish to pay out of pocket. By implementing Medicare for All, we can invest in a healthy, stable workforce at lower costs than Americans already pay.

  • House Republicans want to fund their tax cuts for ultra-wealthy donors by cutting benefits that retirees earned though a lifetime of hard work. In Congress, I will ensure that Social Security and Medicare are protected from Republicans’ reckless and harmful cuts.

Congress must remove the cap on individual Social Security contributions to ensure that the program is fully funded for the retiring workers who earned their Social Security.

  • Politicians on both sides of the aisle have used the insider knowledge that comes with their positions to enrich themselves in the stock market. Members of Congress and their families should not be able to trade individual stocks in accounts over which they have control. Members should be limited to purchasing and holding diversified mutual funds and index funds so that knowledge of upcoming government contracts or other information can’t be abused for financial gain.

  • Citizens United was one of the most disastrous rulings by the Supreme Court in our nation’s history. Since the decision was published in 2010, dark money has filled all corners of our elections. During the 2024 election, Elon Musk personally spent over $290 million to elect Donald Trump to a second term.

Money is not speech, and elections should be placed back where they belong: with the people. I will support legislation to send a constitutional amendment to the States overturning Citizens United and keeping dark money out of politics.

  • Between October 2023 and October 2024, the United States provided at least $17.9 billion in military aid to Israel. Over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as a direct result of Israel’s military operations, and various outlets estimate that between 70% and 80% of those deaths have been civilians.

Netanyahu’s far-right government must immediately end its reckless endangerment and human rights abuses of civilians in Gaza, which continue despite a shaky ceasefire. The United States should cease all military aid to Israel until it does, and then must push for a long-term solution that guarantees Palestinians the right to exist and self-govern and promotes lasting peace in the region.

  • In 2024, Arizonans overwhelmingly voted to enshrine the right to abortion in our state’s Constitution. This was a huge win for the rights of Arizonans to make decisions about their own bodies without government interference. Democrats need to step up and codify the protections formerly guaranteed by Roe v. Wade at the federal level.

  • LGBTQIA+ people deserve to live free from discrimination from every level of government. I will support legislation to expressly prohibit discrimination based upon a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity and work to ensure that support and resources are available to queer and trans folks no matter where they live.

  • Every child deserves access to free, high quality public education. I will vote to protect programs like the National School Lunch Program, funding for students with disabilities, and other critical functions of the Department of Education.

  • Greedy corporate landowners, developers, and restrictive zoning laws have driven homes out of many Americans’ price range. When I am elected to Congress, I will support broad legislation that will invest in the financial security of owning a home:

Houses are for people, not for stockholder value. I will support legislation to restrict corporations from buying up single-family homes and force them to divest from homes they currently own. We cannot allow billions of dollars from Wall Street to turn us into a nation of lifetime renters.

First-time homebuyers don’t want McMansions. I will support legislation expanding federal grants and tax incentives to make constructing affordably-priced homes financially viable for builders so first-time home buyers have options in the market that better suit their needs and budget.

A history of paying rent on time should qualify you for a corresponding mortgage. I will support expansion of federally-backed mortgage loans to first-time buyers who qualify based on a history of paying rent.

Homeownership is the primary source of wealth for most Americans. I will support legislation that expands down payment assistance and low mortgage rates for first-time home buyers to invest in long-term financial stability for working families.

  • Decades of anti-labor policy spearheaded by Republicans has significantly contributed to rising wealth inequality. We can help workers get back their bargaining power by adopting pro-union legislation:

Pass the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act): The PRO Act would help to close loopholes that employers use to discourage union activity and would ensure a clear and fair process for workers to unionize.

Pass the Faster Labor Contracts Act: The Faster Labor Contracts Act is bipartisan legislation that would ensure that workers can quickly negotiate and enter into a collective bargaining agreement after voting to unionize and would prevent employers from stalling negotiations.

Repeal the Taft-Hartley Act: Taft-Hartley was perhaps the most anti-worker legislation ever enacted in the United States. It kneecaps the ability of workers to effectively advocate for themselves and significantly shifts bargaining power in favor of employers. The PRO Act is excellent legislation that addresses key problems with Taft-Hartley, but Democrats should have the courage to go farther and repeal this unfair legislation.

Reform or repeal the Railway Labor Act: The RLA unfairly treats rail and airline workers differently than workers in other industries and creates unfair checks and barriers on workers’ rights to unionize and effectively bargain. The RLA should be reformed to eliminate the ability of the President and Congress to impose a contract on workers (which almost always favor the rail companies) and remove requirements for nationwide organization. Alternatively, if Taft-Hartley and other barriers to the rights of workers are removed, the process can be simplified and costs can be saved by consolidating rail and airline workers under the National Labor Relations Act and repealing the RLA entirely.

  • Qualified immunity is a legal doctrine that allows law enforcement to hide behind even the flimsiest arguments to avoid accountability. Qualified immunity can be ended simply by an act of Congress.

Without qualified immunity, law enforcement will be held to the same standards as any other professional who makes a mistake. Accountability and consequences matter, especially in a profession where a bad decision can end a person’s life.

  • ICE is out of control.

Every individual who has worked with or been associated with ICE should be fired immediately. The entire agency needs to be rebuilt from the ground up with new personnel, new internal policies, and a new goal: Responsible, well-investigated enforcement prioritizing individuals with violent offenses or proven connections with organized crime.

Kristi Noem should be impeached and removed. ICE officers who kill or abuse protesters should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. There is no place for a secret police with zero accountability in the United States.
